Thanks for your comments! Please note that my main idea here is for Americans to stop looking "so high up in the government food chain" and instead "encourage communities to responsibly restore and preserve the natural history in their region". I think the best solutions will be found at the local level, not the federal. Besides, with the massive federal debt we have, I would hope the feds are looking for ways to decrease their role, not increase! So, folks like yourself and groups like Trout Unlimited are exactly what I was talking about! If you know of any links to TU projects that are working towards restoring native trout populations, would you mind sharing a few with me? I would love to post those here.

Good read! I agree with almost everything the in the article, although I’m not a scientist and have only read a few of the books you reference. The only thing I’d mildly object to is looking so high up in the government agency food chain for a solution to diversity loss — you can affect change much more readily by getting involved at a local level and working with your hook-and-bullet agencies. Trout Unlimited chapters all over the country (including my own chapter) come up with brilliant projects to restore diversity to individual streams and watersheds.

Thank you Dr. Beisner, and what an honor it is to “meet” you! I read your book “Where Garden Meets Wilderness” a few years ago, and appreciated it so much! It is full of wisdom.

Thank you for the reminder about Cornwall Alliance. I do want to keep up with it more, and perhaps even work together on some things in the future.
